Yesterday in Portland at the Deep Roots Coalition Yesterday in Portland at the Deep Roots Coalition gathering of winegrowers, we presented our Hero of Salmon award to John Paul of Cameron Winery!🍷

in 1997, Cameron’s estate vineyard in Oregon’s Willamette Valley was the first farm ever to achieve Salmon-Safe certification. John Paul also founded the Deep Roots movement of West Coast winegrowers, who are passionate and committed to sustainable viticulture without irrigation.🐟🍇

As Salmon-Safe gears up for further expansion acro As Salmon-Safe gears up for further expansion across the interior Columbia Basin, Michelle McGrath is joining the team as program director. Michelle’s priority at Salmon-Safe will be to lead the rollout of our $6.3M EPA grant focused on reducing water quality impacts in the Basin.

Prior to starting at Salmon-Safe, Michelle most recently was CEO of the American Cider Association. Throughout her career, Michelle has been a champion for farmers, value-added producers, food system sustainability, and environmental conservation. Her former work in this arena includes supporting farmers in the Columbia River Gorge with Gorge Grown Food Network.

At Salmon-Safe, Michelle will be collaborating with partner organizations to implement water quality and climate resiliency improvements that expand the scope and geographic reach of Salmon-Safe’s longstanding work. Based at Salmon-Safe’s Portland HQ, Michelle will work in tandem with our Boise, Walla Walla and Spokane-based outreach team, and implementation partners across the region.
Michelle starts with Salmon-Safe on Jan 1, 2025.
Today’s the day folks! The River Reunion is THIS Today’s the day folks! The River Reunion is THIS afternoon from 4-8pm at Brick West Brewery - come out and enjoy the great weather, a Salmon-Safe certified Upstream Pale Lager, and learn about all the epic conservation work being done in the Spokane Community.

In addition to the other great organizations highlighted, The Lands Council and the Spokane Riverkeeper will also be attending - come by and say hi to their staff during the event, and learn all about the epic work they do in the community to restore watershed health and wildlife habitat.

Spokane Riverkeeper was founded back in 2009 by a group of committed conservationists in the community, and advocates for the Spokane River’s ecological health, vibrancy and fostering a healthy community connection to the river. They also work to educate and collaborate with the community through citizen events such as river cleanups, citizen science projects, and more!

The Lands Council, founded in the Spokane community in 1983, works to preserve and revitalize Inland NW forests, water and wildlife through advocacy, education, effective action and community engagement. From installing Beaver Dam Analogs with landowner partners to promoting climate justice and forest lands protections, they’re committed to holistic conservation of the Spokane community for future generations.

Come down to the River Reunion to connect and learn about these organizations and the others working hard to conserve the health of our wild and working lands!

Who else is ready for the River Reunion tomorrow? Who else is ready for the River Reunion tomorrow? Cold Steam Malt & Grain and LINC Malt sure are!

As a farmer-owned malting company based here in the Inland Northwest, Cold Stream’s farmers are committed to soil and water conservation with a focus on stewarding their lands to improve fish habitat, salmon surviving and combating climate change. With this climate resilient stewardship commitment, all of the grain grown through their Cold Stream program is certified in the Salmon-Safe farm program. Salmon-Safe team is excited to have them as such a committed partner, and 100% of the malt brewed in the Upstream Pale Lager is sourced from Cold Stream’s Francin, Steffi, and Buzz Pilner malt blends.

Speaking of committed partners - Spokane Valley-based LINC Malt works directly with Cold Stream Malt as a valued partner in the supply chain, working to develop market relationships with breweries and distilleries region wide, as well as supporting their quality verification and distribution. LINC Malt is a part of the LINC Foods Co-Op (local Inland NW Cooperative) here in town, which works directly with local farmers to build a regional, sustainable, and equitable food system. In addition to their work with Cold Stream, they also source grain from other growers in the Salmon-Safe program throughout the Inland NW from the Tri-Cities and across the Palouse.

So raise a pint of Upstream Pale Lager tomorrow at the River Reunion, and celebrate locally grown and climate resilient grain! Come down and join in - come for the beer, stay to learn about all the other watershed conservation efforts ongoing in our region across wild and working landscapes! A portion of proceeds raised tomorrow at the taproom goes back to the participating nonprofits.🌱🍻

The PCC Community Markets x Salmon-Safe in-store h The PCC Community Markets x Salmon-Safe in-store highlight is now live!

Big shoutout and thanks to PCC Community markets, who’s been a strong supporter of Salmon-Safe’s work in transitioning farming practices to more watershed-friendly stewardship methods for nearly 20 years. With the help of our Puget Sound partner @stewardshippartners, PCC has been a vocal supporter of many of our Puget Sound-based Salmon-Safe certified growers who’re working hard to steward their lands in climate-resilient ways. We couldn’t be more thankful to have such a helpful supporting entity in our corner and we continue our work across the region.

We’re happy to continue to build on this partnership with PCC today, as exemplified by PCC’s recent launch of a month-long in-store highlight of Salmon-Safe certified products across their stores. We’re excited to partner with PCC for this campaign to further validate and shine a light on growers going the extra step to steward their lands with Salmon and watershed health in mind.

Read up on this campaign in the link in our bio, and keep your eye out for the Salmon-Safe logo on products in-store!🐟
